Supposedly basing their 'worthy or worthless' humanity classification decisions solely either on Ethnicity or Social Class or Religion or Physical/Mental/Moral Fitness, but actually basing them on a little from all four, most of the world's nations in 1940 were fully within the hegemonic mental blinders of Purifying Modernity.
Nazi Germany said it used the degree of Aryan racial purity (today we'd call it 'ethnicity' rather than race) to determine full citizenship while Communist USSR said it based its social system on the class origins of each potential full citizen.
Sunni Moslem countries said they based their citizenship on the degree of orthodoxy to Sunni Moslem beliefs. The West said full citizenship was determined by a threefold fitness test, such that those judged 'unfit' could be denied the ability to become parents.
In practise, it mostly revolved around 'social class' in all nations : so a soft spoken, well educated, well dressed, well-off, light skinned American black man might still be accused of raping a white woman but was less likely to be actually convicted or lynched for it.
The top Nazi leadership are on record expressing their personal disdain for the population of the USSR mostly in terms of class .
For when visiting their newly-conquered cities, they remarked most vividly upon those inhabitants who were seen as particularly rural, poor and unsophisticated --- when the correct Nazi orthodoxy was to disdain all Slavs and Jews !
Middle class mouths in all sorts of nations talked loosely about using lethal (gas) chambers to deliberately eliminate wholesale groups of those they judged unfit, but only Hitler and Stalin actually did so -- killing tens of millions of people in this fashion.
They were at terminal stage IV of that era's obsession with purifying the gene pool down to only those they judged fit enough to deserve life.
Their large scale, overt and direct, 'purifying' killing machines have been dissected in tens of thousands of books - you don't need me to add to that pile.
But the rest of the world was only at Stage I or II of Modernity's 'purifying' addiction.
So it takes much more effort for me to make the case that they did in fact cause the deaths of a surprisingly large number of those they judged 'unfit' during the war - usually by the relatively subtle manner of quietly (but deliberately) denying them some of the necessities of life : be that physical protection, adequate food or lifesaving medicine.
My book-blog is centred on Dr Martin Henry Dawson's successful fight to reverse the Allied effort to deny penicillin to those dying for lack of it who were judged unfit, unworthy and of low value to the war cause.
But it will also include death-by-deliberate-neglect examples from right around the world and across the entire length of the war.....
