Hitler feed into a pre-existing fear among Protestant northern Germans in Mittel Europa that they were 'surrounded' by swarthy Catholics and Orthodox on all sides.
From 1850 onwards, many of those worried Germans fled to Mittel Amerika , out of the pan and into the fire, because it was a land where the relatively small band of white Protestants Americans also felt surrounded and threatened by large numbers of swarthy French and Spanish Catholics from the north and the south.
Protestants rarely marry into darker natives of the land they stole and colonized because their religion is inherently non-catholic in the non religious sense. One can't imagine Catholics 'shunning' sinful members of their faith - burn them alive maybe but not shunned.
Catholics are indeed catholic and polylithic in the religious slash hence cultural sense and so will marry anyone.
They threatened to outbreed the Protestant USA of the 1620s to 1860s and proof is big American cities like San Francisco and St Louis, one founded by the Spanish and the other by the French.
White Protestants in Mid West states felt like the thin pure meat in a big mixed grain sandwich.
This fear by being surrounded by darkies with a foreign religion is baked deep into the American white Protestant mind.
It played out again on Tuesday with Trump's win....
